Diplomatic Efforts Advance as Zelensky and Trump Prepare to Revisit Ukraine Peace Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans to meet US President Donald Trump in Florida, signalling intensified diplomatic engagement aimed at ending Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.

The announcement comes as hostilities persist, with Russian air strikes striking Kyiv and Kharkiv, causing casualties and forcing authorities to urge civilians to seek shelter during renewed attacks.

Zelensky has stated that discussions in Florida will centre on a US-brokered peace framework, including detailed talks on security guarantees and a separate economic cooperation agreement.

One of the key proposals under consideration involves establishing a demilitarised zone in eastern Ukraine, designed to reduce fighting without immediately settling the issue of territorial sovereignty.

Ukraine has indicated it could withdraw troops up to 40 kilometres from certain parts of Donbas, provided Russia agrees to pull back forces from occupied industrial regions.

Russia, which currently controls large portions of Donetsk and nearly all of Luhansk, has described the updated US proposals as sharply different from plans discussed directly with Washington.

Senior Kremlin officials have reiterated that Ukraine must withdraw entirely from Donbas or risk continued military escalation, rejecting compromises on territorial arrangements.

Trump has expressed confidence in his ability to engage both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, while insisting that any final agreement will require his approval.

Zelensky has described recent negotiations as constructive, noting that revised proposals now include US and European security guarantees modelled on Nato’s Article 5 commitments.
